Drum roll, please. And the winner of the Missouri Hospital Association's (MHA) "2011 Auxiliary of the Year" is ... the Christian Hospital Auxiliary. The moment was electrifying as Johnnie Greenlaw, Christian Hospital Auxiliary president, and other hospital Auxiliary board members accepted the award Nov. 10 at MHA's annual convention.
In the past 12 months, the Christian Hospital Auxiliary has raised $326,033 and has donated funds to Christian Hospital for stretchers and stair chairs for the EMS ambulances, furniture and computers to create a library in the mental health unit, a new bus for the outpatient rehabilitation department, renovation of the sound system and stage curtains in the Atrium, and the purchase of weight scales to distribute to CHF patients in an effort to educate and be proactive instead of readmission to the hospital. Since1998 the Christian Hospital Auxiliary has raised more than $10 million to improve patient care and health services in North County.
Christian Hospital's Auxiliary was honored in the large-hospital category (300-plus members) in recognition of nearly 75,000 hours of service to the hospital, BJC HealthCare and the community during the last 12 months. This is the seventh time the Christian Hospital Auxiliary has received the award in the last 35 years.
The Christian Hospital Auxiliary operates the hospital gift shop, as well as the Curiosity Shoppe resale shop, located in the Detrick Building on the hospital campus. The group was chartered in 1964 and continues to host numerous fund-raisers throughout the year.
