CH EMS Safety Tip - Sweet Summer Time STINGS

Sweet Summer Time STINGSThe normal reaction to a bee sting is pain at the location of the bee sting, itching and swelling.

Bees, wasps, and hornets are different in the way they sting and carry their venom. Hornets and wasps don't leave their stinger behind. Bees leave the stinger behind. The stinger should be removed immediately, to minimize the amount of venom received.

Removing the stinger: While there is some controversy over the "best" way to remove it, what is important is how quickly it is removed. So pull it out, brush it off, or scrap it out... Just do it quickly!!!

The possibility of being stung can be reduced by: Wearing shoes outdoors; Be watchful for nests; Wear light-colored (preferably white or tan) clothing; In late summer, when yellowjackets are at their peak, plan fewer outdoor barbecues.
